About 350 sq miles (900 sq kilometers) make of Berlin quite a big city in European terms, especially when compared to my home town of Barcelona (40 sq mi, 100 sq km). If you plan to visit Berlin for a couple days, the Mitte district must be on the program. I explain the reason for that in my Berlin Journal. Should you stay in the German capital for a longer period or if you know the city already, then you will see fascinating places all over Berlin. So remember to put on comfortable shoes, take a metro plan, … and have fun discovering Berlin!
Berlin from East to the West and from North to the South
I suggest up to twelve different routes in this chapter – one in every district. For each route I have prepared a map with information about metro stations and important things to see. The numbers refer to special buildings, monuments and places that I present and explain.
Berlin is certainly not lacking in places of interest and attractions: in Mitte for example are the Museums Island, the wonderful and historical boulevard Unter den Linden or the magnificent square Gendarmenmarkt. Be ready though for windmills, woods, lakes with beaches or historic bridges amongt many others!
